D-Artemis: A Deliberative Cognitive Framework for Mobile GUI Multi-Agents
Paper · 2026 · Hongze Mi, Yibo Feng, WenJie Lu et al.
Summary
Mobile GUI agents that run apps by imitating user taps and swipes face three problems. Trajectory-based training is limited by narrow data. Errors are usually caught only after a bad action has already derailed the task. Generic tip collections can give conflicting advice across apps. D-Artemis addresses these with a training-free multi-agent framework built on general-purpose MLLMs such as Qwen2.5-VL-72B, loosely modelled on human thinking, alignment and reflection. Each step works as follows:
- A manager agent proposes a thought and an action. It uses tips retrieved only for the apps involved in the task, plus a short working memory.
- A lightweight Thought-Action Consistency (TAC) Check flags mismatched thought–action pairs before execution.
- An Action Correction Agent (ACA) repairs the flagged actions.
- After execution, a Status Reflection Agent (SRA) judges the result and passes guidance to the next step.
The framework reaches the best results among open-source general models on AndroidWorld and ScreenSpot-V2, and ablations show each component adds value. The main implication is that careful agent design can stand in for costly GUI-specific fine-tuning.
Key points
- Main results: 75.8% success on AndroidWorld and 96.8% on ScreenSpot-V2, state of the art among open-source general models.
- App-specific tip retrieval adds 6.9% on AndroidWorld. A mixed, cross-app tip set often does worse than giving no tips at all.
- On 179 errors caught by TAC, ACA fixes 92.7% overall at about 2.12 s per correction. Per action type, correction rates range from 80% (Terminate) to 100% (Type).
- Working memory keeps the last five thought–action pairs plus the latest reflection, which helps avoid action loops.
- Error analysis shows far fewer Grounding and Navigation failures than the baseline. Most remaining failures are Planning and Perception errors, which the authors trace to limits of the base model.
