- Do Large Language Models Understand Conversational Implicature- A case study with a Chinese sitcom (2024 · 11 citations)
The authors test whether large language models (LLMs) understand conversational implicature, that is, the indirect, non-literal meaning of an utterance, in Chinese. - A Transparent Model of Syntactic and Semantic Cue-based Retrieval (2026)
When readers link a verb to its subject, they struggle more if another noun in the sentence resembles the true subject. Cue-based retrieval theory explains this interference. Recent work has instead used Transformer attention heads to model it, but those signals are hard to tie to specific linguistic operations.
