- Hala Technical Report Building Arabic-Centric Instruction & Translation Models at Scale (2026 · 5 citations)
Arabic language models are held back by a shortage of good Arabic instruction-tuning data. The authors address this with a "translate-and-tune" pipeline. First, a large AR↔EN translator, CohereLabs/command-a-translate-08-2025, was quantized to FP8. It ran about twice as fast and its translation scores did not drop.… - AraLingBench: A Human-Annotated Benchmark for Evaluating Arabic Linguistic Capabilities of Large Language Models (2026 · 3 citations)
Arabic LLM evaluation has focused mostly on factual knowledge and problem solving, through suites such as ArabicMMLU, EXAMS, BALSAM and 3LM. - Arabic Safety Alignment as Selective Refusal: An Empirical Study of SFT, DPO, and Guard Calibration (2026)
The paper asks how to make Arabic-capable LLMs refuse harmful requests without also refusing benign but sensitive questions about news, medicine, law, or policy.
