- Roots & patterns vs. stems plus grammar-lexis specifications: on what basis should a multilingual database centred on Arabic be built? (2003 · 1 citation)
The authors argue that a multilingual lexical database for Arabic machine translation should be stem-based: each entry is an actual lexeme with grammar-lexis specifications, such as the kinds of complement a verb takes, rather than a root-and-pattern database that generates stems. - Inductive coding of the Arabic lexicon (2003)
SYSTRAN began building Arabic, Farsi and Urdu to English MT systems in July 2002 and had few trained Arabic lexicographers.
