Papers

  1. Bimorphisms and synchronous grammars (2014)
Language relations, such as translation or the relation between a sentence and its meaning, are often more natural to specify than single languages.
  2. Arabic Diacritization Using Weighted Finite-State Transducers (2005)
The paper restores short vowels and other diacritics (shadda, sukun, tanween, hamza forms) to undiacritized Modern Standard Arabic with a cascade of weighted finite-state transducers, modelling the loss of diacritics generatively and decoding with Viterbi.
  3. Synchronous Grammars as Tree Transducers (2004)
Tree transducers came from formal language theory as generalisations of finite-state transducers to trees.
